On July 14, 1931, one day after the closing of Danat Bank, Adolf Hitler, upon leaving his interview with the United Press International news agency, is shot and killed by a lone assassin.

How does the loss of Hitler at this crucial moment in the Nazi Party's OTL rise affect the party's cohesion? Who steps in to takes Hitler's place at the head of the party, and how does his loss impact Nazi performance at the ballot box in the November elections in Hesse and the April elections in Prussia, and of course the federal elections in November?

Assuming the Nazis still do reasonably well and the Bruning chancellory still fails as per OTL, would the Nazis without Hitler be more suceptible to being successfully co-opted by Schleicher or Von Papen, rather than Hitler's OTL holding out for the chancellory themselves?
