your challenge if you choose to accept it is with a post 1900 POD to create a world where lebanon is majority christian. Bonus points if you manage it with Syria too. So what is the world like by now with a majority christian lebanon(and syria if you so choose)?

Well, WI somehow after 2000 the Maronite-dominated SLA manage to retain their military and political control of the south after Israel withdraws ?

When French decided to create Lebanon they decided to add muslim areas to it. If they would create Lebanon without them it would keep christian majority. It would also be a lot smaller.

By 2000 SLA was hardly a Maronite-dominated. It was full of shi'ias who joined for the money (which is why it was so easy for Hezbollah intel service to penetrate it).

so a variant on the POD: Presume that post 1945 we have a flood of
egyptian copts and other mideast/north african christians into both
lebanon and Syria. Besides a mostly christian lebanon and a bigger
christian population in Syria(not sure how much it would increase)
does this have any effects on the world?

Why would they go to Lebanon?

Wouldn't Ethiopia be a better (easier) choice for many, or even Israel for some? And isn't the First World more enticing still?

1 Presume that this is before the 1960s when the first world opens up. Ok some go ot isrwal but not enough.

2 Ethiopia is on the bottom of the third world

So whast happens in a mostly christian lebanon and more christian Syria?

It's quite easy to get a majority Christian Lebanon without resorting to Egyptian genocides of the Copts. As has been said, have the French go with a more realistic Lebanon border. Have the French trade the area south of the Litani to Palestine for all of the Golan Heights and maybe some other concessions in Iraq. That area alone being gone gives Lebanon a much more sustainable Christian majority and makes the civil wars which really caused Christian emigration that much less likely.

Syria is quite a bit harder. I can't see a genocide of the Copts helping here, either, as I don't see why the Copts would want to go to Syria. The only thing I can think of is a near-ASB "Great man" leading the Syrians to conversion somehow....
