Did Oswald have something against JFK specifically?

Did Oswald kill JFK because of JFK's policies in particular or was he just as likely to assassinate the President if it was someone else like Nixon?

Was his goal to kill JFK the man or JFK the figurehead?

Oswald was a literal Marxist. He briefly defected to the Soviet Union for a few years. He probably just wanted something to destabilize the country.

To Oswald, Kennedy embodied the American establishment, which was anti-Communist. It likely did not help that he had been aggressive toward Cuba. He would have assassinated anyone else like that. Oswald was a troubled human being from a bad family who became a Communist just so he could mean something, and wanted to see himself as some historic, enduring hero making a historic action. He was an a**hole. Oswald tried to kill General Edwin Walker, who Kennedy got rid of because he was so antithetical to him. And yet Oswald also tried, and succeeded, in killing Kennedy. So Oswald would have shot anyone he could have.

i heard an author who wrote a book about Mrs Pane, who said that if Dallas somehow gave a parade to Khrushchev that passed by the School Book Depository. Oswald would have killed um too. It was ego and anger.

Gov Conally was in the front seat, and took a bullet. He had served briefly as under Secretary of the Navy. His signature is on a letter denying Oswald a upgrade of his discharge to 'honorable'. There is photo of the letter in the Connolly biography 'Lonestar'
