    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

I know how to fix it (actually I use GIMP so unless you've done something truly horrible to your UI, as long as the paint bucket tool is enabled the button to turn off antialiasing is visible right there), but having it be enabled by default, I can totally see how it would cause a needless...

I converted some of these borders into VTBAM once, might be of some help. This is technically the 17th century, but some of the borders didn't change.

    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

I don't think I've ever done a map project in my entire life, of any kind whatsoever (except maybe a few freeform hyper-low effort althist maps), where I didn't use at least four layers to make it, from the time on where I first got an image editor that supports layers. Tracing is just such an...

I made this map a few years ago, it should be better than the video for the Tibetan polities. "Changtang", "Sertha", and "Yushu" aren't political entities of any kind, just scattered nomads. Most of the stuff on this map is regional military commands that existed at the beginning of 1916 and...

In 1914 China was ruled by Yuan Shikai, a former Qing general and official who was pretty much anti-democratic.

I 100% understand the gripe about why the fill tool is set to have antialiasing by default, that is deranged, but not wanting to have layers is equally unreal to me, layers are so useful, any image editor that doesn't support layers is a glorified doodling simulator.

This is most noticeable with the Amazon which is dammed nowhere along its length. Yes and I would strongly prefer to err on the side of showing fewer or no rivers because they damage the utility of the map.

How wide is "wide enough to be seen"? At least the width of one pixel at that latitude? And where does this information come from? Is it purely based on seeing what's visible when a dataset is converted into a QBAM-resolution raster?

I apologise if this question has been asked & answered before, but is there any concrete rule being used to determine which rivers are shown as coastlines and which aren't shown at all? The implication being of course that if not, I would rather have them not shown at all, as they do kind of...

This isn't very scientific at all, but for this, in GIMP I changed the exposure of the whole image so the shoreline (or what I assumed to be the shoreline, might be a bit off) on the alt map is equivalent to the OTL map, and then selected the part of the image that was land and moved up the...

I would absolutely use this over the present worlda, for the record, although I don't actually use the worlda that much anyways because of how small it is.

    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

I believe it is, I've never been able to make QBAM stuff fit on worlda without some vertical-horizontal distortion. So basically, as you might have heard, neither the QBAM nor the worlda are actually in any well-defined projection that can be identified, and therefore there is no canonical way...

I mean the borders he's using were made by me they're just older and I was later slightly dissatisfied with them.

e.g. Ethiopia? Hmm, if we assume it has to be about the same conditions, Antarctica might be the most similar to our Ethiopia, being a tropical plateau. Though it would be quite isolated! As for some of the things in your original post, it sort of seems like the icecap would be a bit smaller...

Nitpick, why exactly does that disqualify it from being "land"? It seems to me that under normal geographic convention, ice is considered land when it rests on bedrock, including when that bedrock is below sea level and would flood if the ice were removed. After all, most maps depict Antarctica...

    Optimal borders survey: TIBET (revised)

But why Haixi though. Why do people keep wanting to give Haixi to Tibet. I broadly agree with your rant but actually my main annoyance here is that 90% of the people in this thread are just drawing these borders on vague notions of "what would I guess would make the Chinese mad" (as if Tibetan...

Something I've been thinking about is that northern Manchuria and southwestern Siberia did not become core regions of complex states until the modern period even though their mean annual temperatures are not so harsh and they have temperate climates and are river plains which today host large...
